Is your website quietly costing you customers?

Most people never tell you why they left. Here are five signs a website is working against you.

For most new customers, your website is the first real impression of your business. The problem is that a weak website does not complain. People simply leave, and you never find out why. Here are five signs yours might be doing that.

1. It does not say what you do in the first few seconds

A visitor should understand what you offer and who it is for without scrolling or searching. If they have to work it out, many will not try.

2. It is hard to use on a phone

Many visitors will arrive on a phone. If text is tiny, buttons are hard to tap or pages take long to open, they will go back to the search results and choose someone else.

3. It looks older than your business

If the website was built years ago and the business has grown since, the site now understates you. People judge quality by what they can see first.

4. There is no clear next step

Every page should make one action obvious: call, message, request a quote or visit. If a visitor is interested but cannot see how to get in touch, the interest is wasted.

5. It looks nothing like the rest of your brand

A website with different colours, fonts and tone from your cards and signs feels like a different company. Consistency tells visitors they are in the right place.

What to do about it

You do not need to start from scratch every time. Look at your site as a stranger would, on a phone, for ten seconds. Write down what you understood. If it does not match what you wish they had understood, that gap is where to start.
